This might seem to be obvious question that how do you get your email? But many people are ignorant of the fact that they read their mail online rather than reading it in an email program. You don’t use email program on your computer quite often. You don’t download your email to your computer. What you use in order to access your email is a browser.
When you access your mail through browser you actually download it into your web browser’s reserve temporarily. After a specified time period it disappears. Or else it vanishes when you close the application. Online access to your email is provided by some Internet Service Provider (ISP). You will loose all your emails if you cancel your ISP account as your webmail account will not be there any more.
Both browser and email program are programs on your computer. However browser only offers you the provision of accessing your email by surfing the web. Whereas through email program (like Microsoft Outlook, Mozilla Thunderbird, Netscape Suite) you can retrieve email as well as send replies. It also allows you to sort email into folders.
Webmail gives you the opportunity to access your email in any computer but in that case your important mails are not saved on your computer. On the other hand email program does not offer you the provision of accessing your mail on any computer but your emails are stored in your PC.
