While designing a website people often tend to overlook the page layout alignment but it is one of the most important aspects of web design. Doing a layout is very easy if you know the basics of web layout.
Before going for web page layout you should keep in mind that you need to use the whole space intelligently. You should use sized layout section on the web page you are designing. It will allow the web page to expand accordingly and fit the browser window.
Using the whole space intelligently depends on various factors. While making a layout you should try to define spaces and the best way of doing it is by using color. You can also highlight the center of the page by using a different color in the background.
When you make the web page layout you should keep in mind the screen resolution because most of the computers do not use 640X480 resolutions any more. Your web page layout should be suitable for all the screen resolutions.
Another important thing is text width. It is also referred as “scan length”. While designing a website you should see how many words are there on one line. If a line contains many words it becomes difficult for the reader. On the other hand if you use less than five words in a line it is distracting. So the major text area should be of a readable width.
Not only the text. A website is a combination of text and graphics. Images are part of your layout. But giving lots of images can make your web page hard to read. So use relevant images only. Concentrate on the alignment of the image. It is not always necessary to put the image in the center. Use the image and place the write up in such a way so that the image and the write up are in harmony with each other.
